I just tested it with patch 4, choosing Mod type and running Mod Manager I was able to select my mods and they worked. I am not really sure I understand, because Mod type works just fine for me when I set it in PFM and use Mod Manager. Here's another simple step-by-step tutorial, maybe try that.
